And even though most of First Night takes place on the last night of 2008, it's such a great way to start the New Year that it feels much more like a "first" kind of thing than a "last" thing. We even raise our lighted ball at the Fireworks Finale rather than lower it (like they do in some other cities I've heard about) because First Night looks up and forward, not down and backward.
